10k Journey pt. 3 – No turning back

August 31, 2017 By Chris Williams

2 WEEKS IN AND NO TURNING BACK

She’s been in training for just over 2 weeks now and with less than a month to go, Georgia is starting to up the ante and focus on beating that PB! Here’s the next instalment of her training blog ready for the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k on Sunday 24 September.

Here’s the lowdown on last week’s training, some sessions good, others made me want to give up… but no time for dwelling on failure, time is ticking and every minute training helps!

Session 1: Tuesday
7km run – 33.57
So I’m not sure if my Strava was playing up or whether I actually ran this fast, but this is what it’s saying I ran on Tuesday. During this run I also got a new 5k PB = 23:37!! Great way to start another week’s training, long may the motivation continue (I can hope)

Session 2: Wednesday
60 minutes Body Pump
Some days you just really don’t feel in the mood to do any form of exercise and this was one definitely of those days. However, seeing as today my first blog went up and it’s now too late to back out, I had a spurt of enthusiasm at lunch time and booked onto a 6pm exercise class. I’m glad I managed to force myself to exercise, as even a bad workout is better than no workout!

Session 3: Thursday
Speed Session, 9km – 47:25
You would think an interval session would be hard work for just 20 minutes and then you’re free for the rest of the evening – but I would have to have chosen a session that lasted 48 long minutes. It was great to try something different and work at different paces than I’m used to; this session was definitely an eye-opener as to what I need to get up to in the next month if I’m going to do the 10k in less than 56 minutes.
Session 4: Saturday
Gym weights session
There’s something so satisfying about getting to the gym by 10am on a Saturday morning, probably because it meant I had the whole weekend to relax once I was all finished by 11am. Anyway, this session focused on arms and core (my legs are getting enough exercise as it is at the minute) and I even managed a new PB for my incline dumbbell bench press! What a great way to end a winning week!

On the plus side, I’ve been given a sneak preview of the goodybags that all 10k entrants will receive (alongside their official 2017 Admiral Swansea Bay 10k t-shirts that is) and I’ll let you in on a little secret… they have EVERYTHING you could possibly want/need/dream about after running a 10k.

Since we now have less than a month until race day, I’ll soon be sharing with you a few of the items we have in my next blog post and on our Facebook and Twitter pages @EnjoySwansea in the run up to 24 September, as a reward for following my 10k training journey.

If you fancy getting your hands on one, be sure to get your entry in by Thursday 31 August!

Blog soon,
Georgia x
