Still February… It was pouring with rain, husband was in work and children were out for lunch so I had the perfect opportunity to go for my now weekly run (these time alone opportunities are extremely rare and usually I would not be running (chocolate and relaxing usually features heavily. Even a browse around the shops). But off I went with a determination to beat my previous time (seeing as I planned to run the same route). Now wearing a new running top (which fits better than the husband’s) and the same baseball cap (almost like a lucky mascot :)), I felt a bit apprehensive in case it really was a fluke last week and I can’t actually run and plus I have never liked the rain. Actually rain upsets me and I prefer to be inside drinking hot chocolate.
I must be more hardcore than I thought because the rain really didn’t bother me. I used to think people were slightly ridiculous when they said, “Running in the rain is nice as it cools you down.” This is true. The nice American voice again piped up each mile and I picked up my pace to beat last week’s time of 30 minutes and 10 seconds.
What really happened was it took me 30 minutes and 25 seconds but I must have started the app slightly earlier than the previous week because my distance was 2.6 miles. I had an applause from the American voice for my longest ever run (slightly OTT but I’m not going to argue with Nike!). Again I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and now seem to have been bitten by the running bug. My wobbly legs returned but I wonder if that ever goes away?
Unfortunately there wasn’t anyone at home to boast to so I texted my fellow running friends who kindly humoured me with well done replies. I’m starting to think about new trainers and other running paraphernalia (almost like this will make me better at running???) I’m planning to run a bit further next time.
