In 1999 Hendrick Ramaala (South Africa) was the 100th person to run under 30 minutes in Swansea and was also the first person since 1990 to break the Kenyan monopoly who won 8 straight races between 1991 to 1998.
The race was the fastest in the UK on 3 occasions in the 1990's (1992, 1998 (joint fastest), 1999) and was the joint 8th fastest 10K road race in the world in 1999.
The event was the fastest in the UK in 2000 and 2002 with the 2002 time being the fastest time ever run in the UK ( 27.39 ) until Heille Gebresallasse set a new UK record in 2005
The race was voted best 10K in the UK in for 4 consecutive years by Runner's World magazine ( 1999-2002) and also in 2006 by the same magazine (Being rated 3rd best overall race in the UK –all distances). It was also voted best 10K in the UK in 2000 by Running Fitness Magazine.
