There have been 68 times recorded under 35 minutes which includes 29 times recorded under 34 minutes and 3 times under 33 minutes.
48 women have run under 35 minutes which includes 22 women who have run under 34 minutes and 3 women who have run under 33 minutes.
Only 3 women have won the race more than once – Ann King (Carmarthen/Swansea) (1983 & 1984) and Julia Gates( Bath) (1985 & 1987), Miriam Wangari (As a Junior woman under 21 on both occasions) (Kenya)(2001,2002).
Miriam Makewa (Kenya) 2010, Rehab Ddungu (Kenya) 32.36 in 2004 and Lucia Subano (Kenya) 32.52 in 1997 are the only women to have broken the 33.00 minute barrier when winning the event.
Birhan Dagne (Essex/GB) holds 4 of the top 20 fastest times set on the course and is the only woman in the history of the event to have run 4 sub 34.00 times- 1997 (33.43), 1998 (33.36) and 2000 (33.27) finishing as runner-up on each occasion and finishing 3rd in 2004 (33.46)
The only other athletes to run under 34.00 more than once are Julia Gates (Bath) when she won in 1985 (33.29) and 1987 (33.49) , Miriam Wangari (Kenya) when she won in 2001(33.36) and in 2002 (33.36) and was Runner up in 2004 (33.33) and Andrea Green (Dartford) when she was 3rd in 2000(33.41) and also 3rd in 2002 (33.58) and finally Miriam Makewa (32.48) and Gemma Steel (33.33) in 2010.
Amanda Wright (Birchfield) has run under 35.00 four times – (1994 – 34.05 – 2nd) , (1997 – 34.48 – 4th), (2002- 33.46 – as Amanda Wright-Allen ),(2004 - 34.44 -5th) along with Miriam Wangari (Kenya) who is the only woman to have run under 35.00 on 4 consecutive occasions ( 2001-33.36-1st , 2002-33.36 -1st ,2003 - 34.16, 2004 -33.33 -2nd )
Bath has been the most successful club providing the winner of the ladies race on 4 occasions with 3 consecutive wins in 1985, 1986, 1987.
During the 29 years of the female race only 5 countries have provided winners. Kenya (11), Wales (8), England (8), Scotland (1), Canada (1). (NB: No separate ladies race was included in the 1988 event as the whole event was included in the Charity Sport Aid run with only the first runner home being timed.)
